Whittaker

Well, rumors of the exit of Jodie Whittaker after series 13 do come as a shocker. Of course, fans of Jodie as the Doctor don’t want to see her leave. Then you have those fans who are ready for the fourteenth Doctor. Well, according to this article from Radio Times, the Daily Mirror says, “she is leaving Doctor Who at the end of Season 13.”

The fan response is good, and it has to make her feel great and appreciated. Many fans disagreed and still disagree with the choice. Some fans didn’t continue to watch the show. They have their reasons, and they feel they are right. There is not an argument here, just an opinion. People are funny at times, and hardcore fans can be hard to get on board. How many older fans come to like Jodie is unknown to me, but some probably did watch her some.

The bigger question is, how does this impact the selection of the next Doctor? After all, she is the first female to play the Doctor. Chibnall changed the Doctor’s past regenerations a little by bringing Ruth into the picture. He also changed other pieces by saying the Doctor is not who she thought she is. Mostly by suggesting the Doctor is the Timeless Child. There are many things fans see through the storylines with Whittaker as the Doctor. Whether he did this to gain new fans or to cause confusion is not known. But Doctor Who went through changes over the last three years. Whether they are good is yet to be seen, but some fans did not like the changes.

How does having Whittaker as the first female Doctor impact CHibnall’s casting of the next Doctor? Does he cast another female? Maybe he cast a black female or even a black male. Who knows what he is thinking? The one sure thing fans can count on and that is the actor will be British. There are so many variables to consider, and fans hope he cast the perfect person for the role.
