Hero

I. as a fan of Doctor Who, really don’t think of the Doctor as a hero. Of course, this is not true for all fans out there. In this article from Radio Times, I see Peter Capaldi going above and beyond with a young fan. This is something I believe to be not just a good but a great thing for the young fan.

I personally am not a famous actor or athlete, so I am not a hero to probably anyone but maybe my kids and grandkids. But as an actor or athlete these young people do look up to them and I hope they will do what Capaldi did for this young man. Capaldi shows me alot by doing what he did for this fan.

I don’t know Capaldi at all and really don’t know what to expect if I am to meet him. But from this article I can say that he is a person I can relate. His gesture to this fan is absolutely warming. David Bradley tells us that they really did not have the time for Capaldi to what he did, but he did it anyway.

Ok, you want to know what he did right. Well, he went to the hospitality tent and said, ‘Where’s this friend….where’s Chris?’ And I said, ‘There he is.’ Bradley then says, “That Peter spent about 15 minutes drawing a Dalek with hobnailed boots and a bowler hat,”(1) Now this is something I did not know, but Peter went to art school before becoming an actor.

There is one thing I can say about all of this. When I first started watching Doctor Who in 1980, I did not have any way of getting to London or anywhere around the world. But what I can say if I had the chance to see Tom Baker and he did what Peter did I would feel the same way as Chris did. This a great gesture by Capaldi even though he is leaving the role of the Twelfth Doctor.

Peter will always be the Twelfth Doctor and that is the way fans will see him. But Chris will now always see him in a different way. Peter took time out of his day even though he did have it to spend 15 minutes with him. That is something any young fan would love have happen to them.
