Revealed

After reading this article by Huw Fullerton, this fan was a little surprised. Fullerton revealed that Whittaker had a hand in designing her costume. Of course, this may not be that big of a surprise to some Whovians. An actor or actress helping in the design of their clothes for their character may be commonplace. Having this revealed helps fans to know where the costume comes.

Having the actor or actress help with the design very well can be a good idea. In this case, as with others, the person playing the part must like what they are wearing. There are times that the actor did not like their costume. One to come to mind is Colin Baker. Why would anyone want to wear that coat?

Throughout the article, Jodie gives insight as to how the designer, Ray Holman, worked with her to make it exactly what she desired. She seems to be very happy with her costume. She talks about how Holman was very helpful and was good at taking her thoughts and making it real.

One thing which helped was the fact they had worked together before. Honestly, there is not anything that can be that. That is something like Chibnnall and Whittaker working together on Broadchurch. It makes things easier when you already know the designer. You know what to expect from them.

Whittaker and Holman designed the costume from scratch according to Whittaker.(1) That is amazing to this fan. Anyone who can take a person’s thoughts then makes them into something amazes me. You know that is why Holman is the designer.

Of course, Whittaker and Holman had to be very secretive. They met incognito so no one would know about the costume but them.(2) Go figure, Whittaker is the new Doctor, first female Doctor, and their meeting is secret. That is not surprising. Keeping this secret was imperative.

During the process, Whittaker gets distracted by the color of the wallpaper. Then she exchanges information that says that is the color of the pants. Petrol is the color, so that raises a question.(3) What is that color? Well, that may not that big of a deal, but to some, it may be.

Besides the pants, Whittaker tried on a t-shirt she describes as being off the peg. She liked it, but it wasn’t just right. So, Holman worked his magic and made what was needed.

How amazing is it for Whittaker to help design the outfit she will wear. For her, it must be surreal. Most fans if not all would say that it is surreal. What a wonderful idea. Let the person playing the part help with the design of the costume.
