Educational

Whether Whovians know when Doctor Who began in 1963, it was intended to be educational program is something I didn’t know. After researching the history, you will find its basis was to teach kids about historical events. Well, in this article by Huw Fullerton, he tells us Chris Chibnall seems to be trying to return to more educational stories.

Educational stories seem to be more prevalent with the First Doctor, but you can find them throughout the 54 years of the show. Some of the ones mentioned in the article are The Romans, The Aztecs, and Marco Polo.

There are other stories about historical events. These stories to me are interesting and are what makes Doctor Who great. Doctor Who needs them to help balance out the aliens and futuristic ideas.

Fullerton mentions some nu who stories which contain historical events. After reading the article, I thought to myself I knew something was different about those stories. The only thing is, I never realized the story was about a historical figure.

Now, the question to answer is this. Is a return to the original format going to benefit Doctor Who? I don’t know. There are times in history which would be great to see, but which ones do you pick and how do you write a script for them?

As a writer, you will need to be careful as you write them. You don’t want to do it such a way you make people mad. We live in a world which will take things out of context.

It is nice to see that we may see stories similar to the classic series as far as being educational. But, the hope is there is a balance of educational and aliens.

In conclusion, I honestly love educational stories. But I also love all the aliens such as Daleks, Cybermen, the Ood, and any others only seen on Doctor Who.
