Whoopi Goldberg

I am looking at my Facebook news feed this morning. I follow Radio Times, who write stories on Doctor Who. This story stands out to me, because I do not believe what I see. Whoopi Goldberg is dying to do Doctor Who.(1) As a result, I want to let people know what I think.

Now, I am a sci-fi junky somewhat and Star Trek no matter which one intrigues me. I remember watching the original Star Trek with Captain Kirk, Spock, and Sulu. This is one of the first sci-fi TV shows I watch. Then I am introduced to Doctor Who.

Whoopi Goldberg plays Guinan in Star Trek: the Next Generation and do remember her in that role. Whoopi is a good actress and can be very funny at times. I love work in the Sister Act movies. They are some of her best. I also love the part she plays in Rat Race. Rat RAce is one of the funniest movies I have seen ever.

Thinking about Whoopi being part of Doctor Who makes me think. You there are times when you have comedy in Doctor Who and then there are the serious parts as well. I know that Whoopi is a comedian and can be funny, but playing Guinan is not a comical role. She did a great job with that one as well. Then the also was on The View, so I believe she can play a serious role as well. Therefore, I feel that Whoopi Goldberg might be good for Doctor Who.

Watching the trailer for season 10, gives me a good idea of how good Pearl Mackie is going to be as Bill. Knowing that Pearl before this casting has never seen Doctor Who and she is that good. I really can see Whoopi bringing that and more to the show. I do realize though that she may not be a companion, but there are other characters which she can play.

There are rumors of having a female Doctor, so what about having Whoopi as the 13th Doctor. That is just a thought. I believe she can do a great job, and it will give the writers some comic relief, right. Ok, maybe that is a little bit out there, especially with the rumor that BBC wants to go back to a younger Doctor and companion. I am not a producer nor am I the BBC so I can’t tell you where she fits in Doctor Who. But I personally believe she will bring some great ratings to the show.

This isn’t a new idea. The Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith comments on this back in 2011. He says he is dying to have Whoopi on Doctor Who. I believe it is a good idea. Now who see plays, I don’t know, but she will be good for the program.
