Wasted
Some fans may not remember Olivia Colman from the Eleventh Hour, but then others will. You remember she was the human form of Prisoner Zero. She did a tremendous job, and some fans would like to have seen more. The fact she only appears briefly, Steven Moffat regrets he wasted Colman’s abilities on Doctor Who.
Olivia Colman is a great actress and was one of the names fans heard when the idea of a female Doctor surfaced. Now some of you may wonder why Moffat regrets not using Colman more than he did. The article gives several reasons and yes her part in The Eleventh Hour is too small. Everyone gets she plays the monster, but maybe she could be something different.
Most television viewers remember her more from Broadchurch, but she is more popular than that. She is now going to play the queen in The Crown. Along with new roles and old roles, she has won some prestigious awards. The quality of her acting deserves such awards. It is her acting which makes one wonder how she will do as the Doctor.
The article does not say she auditioned for the role of the Doctor, but maybe she did. There is a chance she did have an audition for the role, and Chris Chibnall thought Jodie Whittaker was a better choice. If Chibnall casts Colman as the Doctor, fans get a different show of course. How different fans won’t know, but the difference could be substantial. The choice of Whittaker has worked out. So, it seems to be the right choice.
Will Colman be on Doctor Who again? Who knows? She does have a working relationship with Chris Chibnall. So, there is a possibility she returns sometime in the future. Who knows, she may be the second female Doctor. Maybe she becomes a companion. Although, this is less likely since she is such a name actress now. Looking back, one can see why Moffat believes he wasted Coleman’s time on Doctor Who.
After all the work in television shows and the awards, there is still a possibility she returns to Doctor Who. She does have a relationship and has worked with Chibnall. So, yes, it won’t be a surprise if she comes back to play another character on Doctor Who.
