As fans wait for season 13, an unexpected rumor arises. Jodie Whittaker will be leaving Doctor Who. According to this article, Whittaker’s exit will be after two specials. When looking at this, it reminds me of the way David Tennant left Doctor Who. Now, you as a fan may not see a resemblance, but to me, it is. Because of Covid, the season is two episodes short of a complete season. And to complete Season 13, they are shooting two specials.

It is a sad day when an actor chooses to leave and does not desire to be the Doctor anymore. Most fans would rather an actor stay longer than three seasons, but most decide to depart after three years. There are exceptions, but for the most part, three years seems to be the max. Fans hate to see a Doctor go, but they have something new to look forward to in the future.

But when you think about it, her deciding to leave now is not as unexpected as you might think. Some fans are glad to see her go, but others are hoping for more time. Fans remember the reactions after she became the Doctor. Does the question seem to be how are they reacting now?  Some of those fans stayed and tolerated Jodie. Of course, some left not to return. Here is a second question, will those who left come back? Only time will tell, but they are watching to see what happens.

With the rumor, fans can start to wonder who will be the next Doctor. Who will be the next Doctor? There are so many different names floating around. Are fans looking for a man or a woman? Is the next Doctor going to be of color? Well, even if Chibnall has cast the next Doctor, we will not know for some months. So, yes, it is unexpected, but truthfully fans should see it as the norm.
