Ticky

In this article from Digitalspy, Matt Smith makes the statement “it was tricky for his Doctor Who era not to get ‘caught up in its own mythology’.” Everyone knows mythology is fiction so one can suppose at some point Doctor Who is own mythology to some extent.

When it comes to science fiction, the writers make up the content of each book, television show, movie and other forms of literature. So, a writer there is a need to be diligent and be sure to not go too overboard. Matt Smith is correct in what he says. Fans what stories and shows they can understand and see as being real. If a story is too far out there, some fans may not watch it or be interested. So, yeah there is a fine line you have to walk.

We all know about Greek and Roman mythology. They had stories which they told their children about their gods or men who had great adventures. Most civilizations have mythology, but we love to hear these stories. They are great stories that as children we dream of doing some of the same things.

The writers of Doctor Who or any other science fiction program needs to think outside the box when writing a script. But they must also keep it real as well. They have to think about how the viewer will react to what they are watching and whether it will make them want to return next week to watch the next episode. In other words, you can’t invent too much material, which may lead to a viewer not returning.

There is a lot of mythology o Doctor Who, and for fifty-five years the people running the show have walked that fine line very well. Some of the stories are great, some good, some are okay, some are bad, and then some are just downright awful. But for the most part, they have all been good.

Fans love the mythology of Doctor Who. That is one reason they keep coming back. They are ready to see what new creatures these writers can make up. Who will the Doctor face and will they be friend or foe? They also keep coming back because the Doctor’s face changes every few years along with his/her personality and traveling companions. It may be tricky, but that is one of the reasons why Doctor Who is still here.
