Boy, I tell you the truth. Just as you see the news about the BBC bosses wanting to start the show complete over. Peter Capaldi tells Wales Online that he was ask to stay on.(1) As a result Capaldi has a tough decision to make. Now with that news I am really confused. This is one of those things which really makes you not know what is going on.
I believe that Capaldi does have a tough decision to make. Because of the news from the BBC bosses, you have to wonder if Capaldi can even be in a win win situation. For me, it seems more like he is in a no win situation. I mean he is in a tough spot and I really don’t want to be him.
Now, If am actor and I have been ask to stay on then after that hear that the BBC wants to start a new era with Doctor Who, it really puts me on the spot. I will have to question the bosses loyalty to me. I realize I have been the Doctor for three seasons now and been pretty good at it. How do I view the bosses now? I personally need to wonder how much they like me. But then I am not Capaldi anyway.
Capaldi says he does not want to make that decision now. He actually is trying to avoid it.(2) He already knows that he will have a new boss, since Steven Moffat is leaving after season 10. I really don’t know how ell he knows the new showrunner Chris Chibnall. That seems to be one thing I will consider in making my final decision. If he has a good relationship with Chibnall, that tough decision will be easier to make. Another point to make on this is if Chibnall wishes for him to stay or if he wants a clean slate. Either way it makes the tough decision easier.
I really do not know how to react or even say, because I am not real close to either of these guys. Then I can hope that Capaldi stays and if he does not I am devastated. I can hope for him to not stays and him stay and be devastated. I suppose it is not an choice even for fans. You have those who love him and don’t want to see a change. Then there are those who don’t like and want a new actor. So, overall this is not going to be easy for Capaldi.
For a Doctor Who, this is not a win win situation. Therefore all we can do is hope for the best for the show. What Capaldi chooses is up to him. Therefore, both sides will have to live with his choice. I really hope he makes the right choice for him. As a result, he benefits the most out of the choice. Because he does it for himself and not the fans he will be more pleased with the chioce.
