Tom Baker

Everybody who is a Doctor Who fans knows Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. He was the Doctor for the longest time and may have stayed even longer had there not been any changes. Baker has a different idea when it comes to casting of the female lead. He of course has a right to his own opinion and I suppose his lead will be awesome.

I personally will trust this man because of his time on the show and the fact he knows Doctor Who very well. Now, you are wondering exactly who his female lead for Doctor Who will be right! Well, in this article by Thomas Ling, he gives who he would cast. He tells who and shy he will cast this person as the lead if he is running Doctor Who.

Tom Baker’s choice for the female lead is Dawn French. Now, this is really like it is with Jodie with me. I do not have much to go on. I have not really watched her or seen any television or movies with her in them, but he does give his reasons as to why he believes she is perfect for the role.

Don’t get me wrong here and don’t think that Baker is not excited about the Jodie being the lead. The article even says that Baker is excited about Jodie being the Doctor. It is just that he has someone he thinks is just as qualified. Baker said and I quote, ” Although “thrilled” by Whittaker’s unveiling (“So long as the girl comes over as an alien, a benevolent alien, she’ll be marvellous”), Baker suggested to GQ magazine that French would have been his first choice for a female Doctor.

“I would have thought Dawn French would have been a good Doctor Who, because she’s got such a wry sense of humour and also has a way with her that faintly [suggests] she’s got secrets,”(1) I do not know how much trust any other Whovian puts in TOm Baker, but I can say that he could be right.

French may be his choice, but he does have a great idea for the show. As a result, i did find his idea rather funny though. He talks about bring the past Doctors back together in an old folks home. Now, that is funny. He is hoping that he will get an invite back to join her in the show. Quoting Baker he says, “It would be very nice, wouldn’t it? In a sequence where she found me somewhere in some old people’s home, where actually perhaps there were several old Doctors.

“Everywhere you turn, it’ll be David Tennant in one thing, Matt Smith behind the bar and me in a corner looking up at someone passing saying, ‘Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?’”(2) I think this would be cool. I don’t know how other Whovians will see it, but hey, I think it will work. But alas Baker is not running the show and that will be up to Chris Chibnall. I believe it will work but that is me. Well, Baker thinks it will work as well.

We probably won’t see this but it is a heck of an idea. I am all in for it. How about you? This may be getting ahead of ourselves because we haven’t even seen the first full episode of Jodie yet. I am hoping for a great run from Jodie and I certainly hope others are doing the same.
