Thoughts

The Woman Who Fell to Earth

Doctor Who fans waited almost ten months before seeing any new episodes. So, many of them were ready for something new and refreshing. There are some who were just ready for some changes to make things different and better, Well, here are some thoughts on Doctor Who after the initial three episodes.

Admittedly to some older fans, the changes seem a little too much too soon. And there is a case to made for that. Change is part of Doctor Who, but some fans didn’t like the way it was all done at one time. So, some of the resistance is to a female Doctor, may have something to do with the way the change takes place? Well, okay, that reason is understandable, because of Doctor Who being changed so much this season.

Now, for some of the fans, they didn’t care for Chris Chibnall and believed his choice as showrunner was not a good one. Well, as far as his work to this point, it can be said it is good. His decision to not write any stories featuring old enemies is working well. The new enemies are interesting. They bring new life to the program.

There are some new fans out there now. The reasons for that are many. One of them for sure is the fact the episodes seem to more understandable. Things seem simple but at the same time get to the point. There doesn’t seem to be any wasted effort by any of the cast, or any other persons involved.

Some questioned if Jodie Whittaker would be able to do this. She has surpassed any expectations for many fans. Chibnall’s choice to cast Whittaker was what Doctor Who needed. At this moment, most fans like what they are seeing.

But then Doctor Who is more than just the Doctor, he/she always have companions. Every Doctor has companions fans recognize. And the choice of Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill was outstanding. They work together very well. The chemistry fans see on screen between the cast is what fans need and want. Doctor Who does work unless the whole cast gels.

Jodie Whittaker has been better than expected for some and then others think otherwise. There are always two sides to every argument, so you will some who like it and some who will bash everything. So, fans should expect this.

Now, as far as the episodes go, The Woman Who Fell to Earth did a great job of introducing fans to the cast. The regeneration episode brought the quirkiness which fans expect. The humor was there. There are a couple of the Doctor’s lines which are reminiscent of the healing process. The first was when Whittaker says, “Half an hour ago I was a gray-haired Scotsman.” The other which comes to mind is “Are you a Doctor? I am looking for a Doctor.” Thoughts on the first episode are good, and the fans are looking for more. Another great line was when Whittaker said, “I am a woman, does it suit me?”

Fans will love seeing her making her new sonic screwdriver on the screen. Once complete, she has something to put in those pockets she is trying to find.

The first episode is the first look at a new villain, who takes a tooth as a trophy and puts it on his face. The exchange between the Doctor and Tzim-Sha was classic. The Doctor did not look like she was joking with this, but it funny. She gets his name wrong and calls him Tim Shaw.

The overall feel of the first episode is good, and the fans get some idea of what is to come. They see an energetic and quirky Doctor, who follows in the footsteps of her predecessors. She has many of the qualities fans want to see.

What else do fans see? Well, they see real life. The people seem real with real problems. Ryan is a dyspraxic youth and can’t ride a bicycle. And his grandmother Grace and step-grandfather Graham are trying to help him ride a bike. What fans see in this is a genuine concern from both Grace and Graham.

The thoughts of Graham and as well as Karl are that there are not any aliens in Sheffield. These thoughts come even after their encounter with the coil monster and the Doctor. But these will not last very long, because of everything which happens later. Thanks to Ryan the whole group will believe in aliens by the end of the show.

The way the show ends in a cliffhanger is good. It leads the fans to outer space where the Doctor, Graham, Ryan, and Yaz are floating where the TARDIS once was. Now, everyone has to wait until the next episode to see what will happen.

So, now everyone is wondering if the Doctor and his companions will survive and if they will find the TARDIS. Their thoughts are with the Doctor and her crew. Fans know the Doctor will survive as well as her companions. Yes, they are now her companions because they left earth when she did. So, let’s ask some questions. First, how will they survive? Second, if they do, who picks them up? Finally, will the Doctor find the TARDIS?

Ghost Monument

Fans are in for a treat with Ghost Monument. There is both mystery and action. Some of you reading this are saying there wasn’t any mystery for me, I knew the Ghost monument was the TARDIS. Well, good for you, but not everyone is that smart or observant. So, it does not mean everyone knows when the episode begins, the Ghost Monument is the TARDIS.
The means by which the writer takes the fans through a set of events which lead to the ghost monument are good. By using two spaceships and pilots to rescue the Doctor and his companions worked well. Fans see the new Doctor in a different situation from The Woman Who Fell to Earth.
The Doctor, Graham, Ryan, and Yaz are volunteered for a race for a Ghost Monument. The story is interesting and draws the viewer in if they are curious as to what in the heck the ghost monument is. Man, if you figure it out beforehand good for you. But the truth be told, everyone who is a fan should have realized what the ghost monument may be. But some may not because many wondered if the Doctor would be stranded on Earth again.
The Sniperbots make a good enemy and make things difficult for the Doctor as well as those with her. Of course, they will destroy the Sniperbots and return for the prize. To add to the storyline neither Angstrom nor Epzo can agree on a winner. What fans see is good and keeps their attention.
Once again, fans are introduced to a new villain, but this time they see a new planet. Now, there is at least one question to ask. What is the real name of the planet Desolation? Or maybe no one has asked that question. Oh, but they have. There some fans who are asking if Desolation is Gallifrey? Then there is at least one reason for that. And that is the Sniperbots, but there is maybe one more. The fact the Doctor finds her TARDIS there.

Conclusion

Well, for the most part, the episodes are enjoyable and there are some new fans. But some of the older fans are having a hard time adjusting to the newness. Their thoughts are, it is too much too soon. They aren’t against change, just too much change at one time. Well, we can give that to them, but they are missing some good stuff, but maybe in the future, they will enjoy Season 11. That is after a period of adjustment.
