Thin Ice

Thin Ice

What is my take on “Thin Ice”? Personally I like everything I see while watching the third story of Season 10. That monster is absolutely huge and very dangerous. Then of course the monster can only be apart of Doctor Who. As always the monsters of Doctor Who are great and leave up to Doctor Who to have a new monster in each of the first three episodes.

The beginning of the show give a great description of how the TARDIS operates. She does not always take you where you want to go but rather where you are needed. I love that and it explains why the Doctor really can’t control where he is going.

The idea behind thin ice really hits home with allot of people. What I mean is, the Doctor and Bill land in London during the time when slavery is legal. Now, the repercussions could be many and make things bad or good. One scene I love is where the Doctor is talking with Lord Sutcliff. The one thing I never expected was for the Doctor to punch him. Well, after some really unnerving remarks by Sutcliff, the Doctor lays into Sutcliff. Of course this gets them in trouble and tied up.

The story has the death of several people before the Doctor discovers the monster and what literally is going on. There are great parts through out the story and Peter Capaldi and Pearlie Mackie are great together. This really is the best story of the first three of Season 10. Steven Moffat is building on each episode and my hope is that they will get better every week.

Now, one thing we do not find out is what kind of creature is in the Thames or even where it is from. We just see the men mining for something like coal, but burns hotter than coal. It is so cold that the Thames is froze solid and people can walk on it. The creature has little lights and I am not sure what they are but they converge on a subject and suck them into the water and the monster then eats them. I am guessing the fuel they are mining is from the monster.

Of course, Sutcliff has chains on the monster and the Doctor cannot allow this. So, in the process of things the Doctor uses his sonic screwdriver to release the monster and at the end all we see is the monster leaving the Thames River for the ocean.

I find the this story really enjoyable and will most certainly be ready for the new episode coming this Saturday. I certainly hope the next one is as good as this one.
