The End of Time

This news is not that much of a surprise, but according to this article. David Tennant’s regeneration episode “The End of Time” will be in theaters. Because the BBC wants to commemorate ten years since its airing. Of course, this a great idea because Tennant is probably the most popular new Doctor Who Doctor.

For many Whovians, they will make time to go to watch it. There may be some for reasons beyond their control will not make it. The release of this particular episode gives everyone an idea of the magnitude of the popularity of Doctor Who. Why is the BBC choosing to do this now? Do they believe it will raise the numbers of viewers for the show? Well, there could be many different reasons for the release, but for Whovians, it is something they like to see.

Most fans of Doctor Who believe they never see enough of Doctor Who. The diehard Whovians want new Doctor Who year in and year out. The fact the BBC is only planning ten episodes a year now hurts them. They older Whovians remember seeing twenty-four to twenty-eight. Of course, those episodes were only thirty minutes in length. But still, Doctor Who fans were able to watch their show every week for twenty-four to twenty-eight weeks.

Doctor Fans around the world love the idea of seeing Doctor Who in theaters. Because it means is that it is getting the recognition it deserves. Why hasn’t the BBC allowed this more often? It seems to be a good idea from every standpoint. Doctor Who gets the exposure it needs, and the BBC makes more money. What this does is make this a win-win situation for the BBC and Doctor Who.

The last time the BBC let an episode air in a theater is with “Genesis of the Daleks.” How well it did is not known to this writer, but I can bet it did well. Why the BBC chose that story is not known, but they did make a great choice with it.

In the end, sending “The End of Time” to theaters is a good idea. It lets those who are not that familiar with Doctor Who, see what it is all about. The best of luck with the release and hopes of great things for “The End of Time,” and David Tennant.
