Revived
Doctor Who fans saw David Tennant leave the role of the Doctor over eight years ago. Many if not all wish he would return as the Doctor. Well, Tennant did return to the video screen as the Tenth Doctor, but not for all Doctor Who fans. In this article by Huw Fullerton, he reveals Tennant and his wife, Georgia, revived the Tenth Doctor in a video for the special occasion of his old friend, Gary Russell’s, emigration in 2013.(1)
Doctor Who watched David Tennant as the Doctor for three whole seasons and one with several specials. For an actor to do what Tennant did for his friends shows his heart. Fans know he loves Doctor Who, but this proves he cares about his old friends.
Since Russell worked on Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane Adventures, the video is the perfect gift. A gift which seems to roast Russell. The roasting of celebrities was something Dean Martin would do. Americans at the same time liked these roast.
What Dean Martin would do is have old friends of a famous actor get together. They would sit around a table, and these friends would get up and tell jokes about the celebrity. These programs were watched by many people and were very popular.
Well, that is kind of what Tennant does. Now apparently, he revived the role just to pick fun at Russell. What a gesture by Tennant. It shows he is a good friend. There are times when we all need these friends to get us through tough times.
Fullerton says this about the video, “Whether it’s cracking jokes about Russell being ‘sucked off’ into the time vortex in Cardiff, riffing on the idea of a former Doctor Who magazine editor being a fixed nexus point in time and space or just fiddling with the sonic screwdriver settings, Tenant and Tennant are clearly having a ball throughout, and it’s a wonderful reminder of their time on the sci-fi series.”(2)
It may be wishful thinking, but fans would love to see the Tenth Doctor again. Maybe Chibnall will make a special with the Tenth and Thirteenth Doctors. Who knows what will happen? Maybe because Tennant and Whittaker are friends and colleagues it will.
To be honest, I am glad to see things like this. It shows that some actors are not self-absorbed and care for others. Which is the view you get from some of those famous people in the world. It seems they don’t care about the fans and even themselves. Seeing this is great and I hope that Tennant does not change because the world needs more people like him.
