Pushed Around
According to this article, former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi feels Doctor Who was pushed around during his time as the Doctor. In an interview with the Telegraph: he told them, “I think maybe their eye was taken off the ball, or the show was seen as a thing they could push around. It’s not. It’s a special thing.” Wow, Doctor Who moving time slots because of another program?
Well, Capaldi is right when he says this. Doctor Who is an iconic television show and needs a set time when it will air. Why would the BBC allow this? I have read that the number of viewers has decreased over the last few years. Some fans may say it is because of the showrunner. Then some would say it is for other reasons. But what may be another problem is Doctor Who not being air at the same time every week?
Everybody wants to watch their favorite shows at the same time every week. So, why do you move Doctor Who around like some unknown, unproven show? Doctor Who is as iconic a television show as there is. To fans, it needs to be first when deciding what should air. Doctor Who should not play second fiddle to any show.
Fans will agree with Capaldi on his view. They should be able to build a ritual around Doctor Who. Fans of other show can make it a ritual of watching their show, but by moving it around Doctor Who fans don’t get the same privilege. Which I believe is wrong.
Doctor Who fans are like all other fans and deserve the chance to watch their show on the same night and at the same time. Capaldi said he hardly ever knew when it would be on. And he was the Doctor. That is sad and makes you think the BBC wanted to cancel the show. That may not be the case, but it seems strange they pushed around Doctor Who.
