One Year

If there is one part of Doctor Who fans look forward to, it is the Christmas Special. But will everything be okay if, for one year, there isn’t a Christmas special? According to this article, Doctor Who for the first time in the last thirteen years will not have a Christmas special. Is this a bit of a surprise? Maybe it is to some extent, but with all of the changes this year, why does it come as a surprise?

The article does mention something of interest though. It says Steven Moffat found it hard to come up with ideas for Christmas specials. Does that seem believable? You may see that as being a reason for not having one the year. Then again, it may have more to do with Chris Chibnall and the changes. Does it have anything to do with the money? Whether money plays a part in this is not even mentioned in the article.

So, what are things going to be like without a Christmas special? One thing is there will be a longer time before fans get new episodes after the season finale. Which raises the question, how long can they wait?? Well, they have waited a long time before, and this will only be a little longer than usual. Or at least a little longer than usual since the reboot.

Fans really should have that big of a problem, because the older ones went through a long time between the cancellation in 1989 and the movie in 1996. Which then led to the reboot in 2005. So, will not having a Christmas special be all that bad?  But for some, it may seem worse than others.

Well, fans will have to deal with not having a Christmas special this year, but hopefully, it does not turn into a yearly thing. But if you look back at the classic series, there wasn’t an episode devoted to Christmas. Not saying there weren’t any specials, just that is was not a yearly tradition at Christmas.

Fans will most likely be okay with not having a Christmas special for one year, but they may hope it doesn’t turn into more than that. Fans have survived longer periods of time without Doctor Who. So, adding a few months to the time between the season finale of 11 to the beginning of Season 12 shouldn’t make that big of a difference.
