Novels
Doctor Who fans are aware of Doctor Who books. But now according to this article by Huw Fullerton, the most recent showrunners are putting some their stories into novels. Fans are always looking for Doctor Who stuff to fulfill their cravings for Doctor Who.
Having some of the stories from the first ten seasons available in novels would be great. If you don’t have access to the video of the seasons, you can get the book and read the stories. Novels are made into movies all the time, and they do not always match what is in the novel. Therefore, how will this work with the stories of Doctor Who?
Of course, the process is different. What RTD and Steven Moffat and the others involved are doing is taking the scripts from the Doctor Who episodes and putting them into novel form. Some of the classic series were made into novels, so this is not anything new. But for fans of RTD and Moffat, it gives them some of their stories as novels.
To be honest, I am not that big of a reader and never have been so I probably won’t buy any of them, but there are fans who will. Especially those with a passion for reading.
Whether the stories will be close to the episodes, I cannot say. I never read any of the classic series novels which accompanied the stories. Then getting access to some of those stories may be difficult, but with all the avenues to buy things today probably not.
Doctor Who fans are a fickle bunch. Some are very critical of what goes on with the program, so whether this is a good idea to them is unclear. If the stories are not like the television version, they will complain and tell you it is not good. Well, to each their own.
In conclusion, novelizing some of the stories from RTD and Moffat is good. Fans will now be able to read a novel on some of the stories from the first ten season. Thanks, RTD and Steven Moffat for what you did and are now doing for Doctor Who.
