Nickname

Everyone has a nickname. These are usually related to the person and received from people who know them. Well, Huw Fullerton wrote this article about a nickname the Chinese Doctor Who fans gave Karen Gillan.
Whovian know Gillan as Amy Pond, but since leaving Doctor Who she has done some other things. Most recently the movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle as well as Guardians of the Galaxy. Her career seems to be going very well.
Of course, during her press tour for Jumanji, Gillan discovered she has a nickname given to her by Chinese Doctor Who fans. The nickname is one which Whovians will say makes perfect sense. During her time as Amy, Steven Moffat had a story arc where Amy and Rory have a child. Of course, this arc ties in with another character fans met earlier.
River Song enters the picture in the episode Silence in the Library. When fans see her there, they don’t have much information on her and neither does the Doctor. The events of this story are confusing to the Doctor. Although it seems he works it out, there is some doubt left in his mind as to who River is.
Fans get this information and then wait for more information about River. The wait for the development of River is several years away. Some are most likely anxious for additional tidbits on River. Well, it is not until the Eleventh Doctor meets Amelia Pond we see her development. During Gillan’s time on Doctor, fans see lots about her, Rory, and River. Of course, what fans find out is that River and the Doctor marry. Not sure of which Doctor does marry her, but appearance say the Twelfth.
As a result of their marriage, the nickname the Chinese fans give her reflects this. The name makes sense and fans will see that it is perfect.
Gillan posting on Instagram about her experience of the tour said, “The most magical thing of all was finding out from Chinese fans that I am known as ‘The Great Mother-in-Law'”.(1) Hey, the nickname fits. Anyone who is a can see a great name for Amy/Karen Gillan.
