Midnight

Midnight

Midnight for me is not the perfect place to take a vacation. In this episode, we see Donna only for a brief time. The Doctor and she travel to something like a spa. While Donna stays to relax and get the spa treatment, the Doctor gets on a ship to travel to a place called Midnight.

The lead in on this episode is good. The Doctor allows Donna to relax and meet some new people while he travels to Midnight. The cast for this has one person I am familiar. Colin Morgan who plays Merlin is part of the crew. He looks like he is really not very enthused by all the things going on around him. He has earphones in his ears like he is listening to music.

Unknown to me until I read this in Wikipedia, the professor on this is David Troughton, the son of Patrick Troughton the Second Doctor.(1) This is a surprise, nut he is very good in the show. He plays his part very well as do the other actors and actresses.

This in its on way is a very scary episode. When I venture onto a spacecraft looking to travel to a place where not one soul can live because of galvanic radiation, I don’t expect there to be life there. While there is not any other life there persey, the people on the craft are terrorized by something. The use of this creature is marvelous and makes the show interesting. The creature links with the one person who is the most afraid. Then some how gets into the craft and enters that person. This creature is extremely scary and smart. It does things which even the Doctor can’t figure out.

The story progress at a good pace and ends in the only way it can. This creature tries to enter the Doctor, but thanks to the other people traveling with him they get rid of the creature. The craft is completely destroyed and they lose the lives of four people. Because the Doctor is like a zombie he is not able to get rid of this creature. Therefore, it is necessary for the others around him to do this.

This creature is different from most of the other foes the DOctor faces. For once I believe the Doctor doesn’t know what to do. He gets in the middle and the creature almost takes over his mind. No, if there is anything we don’t need is an evil alien taking over the body of the Doctor.

The use of the creature was great. I mean having go around the spacecraft and bang on the hull is something that makes the story interesting. You wonder as it circles and bangs. You are thing when and where he it entering the spacecraft. The people on the ship are like really not very comfortable. They are wondering what are we going to do. This thing is banging on the hull wanting in. We don’t have any protection or information about this thing. As a result, they are shaking in their boots. Honestly, I could not be in there with some shaking either.

Not having Donna in this episode seems to be great. I personally don’t know why, but I am sure there is a good good. They do a great job with this episode, but I do wonder at times if it could be better with Donna. While Donna is not present, this is not the first time this happens. Except the other time is with the Doctor, but to me is not as good this one.
