The Many Faces of the Master
Personally, watching the many faces of the Master, makes me want more. I do realize that he may not be the first enemy which appears on the show, but he must be a favorite. Being a Time Lord there is going to be a possibility of a face change from time to time. There are many reasons for the actor playing the Master to change as well. So, I wish to write a little about each one.
The first of the many faces of the Master is Roger Delgado. I watch him in the role and am just love him. The article I found on this says “He is the Master of class.”
(1) The way he portrays the Master is quite dignified. He loves to use his charm and good manners into luring others into his trap. He always did everything with class and would love a sit down with you. But you can’t allow his charm and kind personality fool you. He may be classy but there is always a motive to get to something.
What is so sad mr Roger Delgado dies in a car accident in 1973, and the Mast is gone for several years. I would have loved to see where the producers of the show were going with the character before his death.
Oh boy, Master where is your skin? As a result of using all his regeneration, when he finally returns to Doctor Who his body is almost completely gone. This look is really why the article calls him “The Master of Decay”.
(2) Now, The show does not give the reason for the use of all his regenerations, but for the Master to look like this he has to be at the end.
This look of decay does not stop him from being the same old power hungry being.
Then at the same time, he will do anything to find a new body or die trying. He wants to live and will do what it takes to find that new body. Therefore, that is what actually takes place. Our next face comes because this decaying Master takes over another being’s body. I most certainly remember that episode. The Doctor gains a companion in Nyssa and Nyssa loses her father as the Master, with leftover energy. Then takes over the body of Nyssa’s father.
Anthony Ansley plays the regeneration of the Master. I quite remember his also trying to beat the Doctor. He is different from the others in that he tries to hide from the Doctor through disguise. Therefore the article calls Him the Master of disguise. I really get use to this guy as the Master. He is the one I remember more that the others. I watch the serials from the 70s and the 80s more than any other, therefore he and Roger Delgado are my Master’s. I always remember the sinister laugh as his plan comes together.
Eric Roberts plays the Master of Survival as he is coined. I honestly do not know much about this particular Master because I watch the movie only once. As a result I do not have much to say. I believe most ans know that the Master is executed b the Daleks for being Evil. Of course his death is not something in the Mater’s plans. Somehow he squirms our of it by his consciousness surviving in the form of a snakelike morphant creature. Hey, go figure, what else do you expect. Well, from there he pulls another body snatching and takes over the body of an Ambulance driver named Bruce.

Now this Master was not around long either. Eric Robert’s Master only lasted through the movie. This one only last one serial. He pulls the same thing Doctor did in order to hide. If you recall from the show call Human Nature, the Doctor places his memories and essence in a fob watch to hide. Well, this Master disguises himself as a child and get away from the great Time War. In the beginning when met on the show he is a kind and gentle man loved by his assistant and others. But upon opening the fob watch his true identity is comes out. In the process he locks himself in the Doctor’s TARDIS and kills his assistant Chantho.
Now if you want talk mad. Well, I call this Master mad. he begins as loving husband and some how becomes Prime Minister of England. Uses his influence from that does the unthinkable and changes the whole of humanity into himself. This all to try and take over Earth. All I can say about that is how that any different from any other time. He is power hungry and wants to rule something. It does not matter whether it is Earth, Gallifrey, or some other planet. That is what he desires. He is quite crazy and mad.
We see glimpses into his childhood during the Tenth Doctor’s reign. It at that time we find out allot of why he is evil and basically mad. The drums from the time vortex and all that he sees as a child. Hey, I would be just as crazy and mad as he is had I went through that as well.
Now, the last is the present incarnation of the Master. Mistress of evil is a wonderful name for this face. She is the one which you never know what is going to happen. You never know where she will show up. I mean she helps the Cybermen and then she is supposedly in heaven. Now come on, really why do you do that.
I like Missy and she is the first of the male Time Lords to regenerate into a female. This is a surprise and new wrinkle in the lives of Time Lords. But you know what, there is not any thing that surprises me with the Time Lords. This face brings a different kind of Master and that is why it is great.
The many faces of the Master are great. I know more about one or two than the others, but the character is great for the program. My hope is that the character remains and no matter who plays the Master or Missy they continue the many faces of the Master.
