Leela

Leela

Leela to me was a wonderful addition to Doctor Who. Of Course, I know that she is a rather what you say is less modern than the Doctor. The thing is two days ago marks the 40th anniversary of Leela coming to Doctor Who.

The Doctor in 1976 lands on an alien planet. In the process, he meets the Tribe of Sevateem. As a result he also encounters Leela for the first time. My favorite companion of all time is probably Sarah Jane Smith, but Leela is up there as well. I truly love her cave like tendencies. She is a hunter and really strikes the more savage side of all humans I believe.

Now she acts much different than Sarah Jane, but is just as useful for the Doctor. She is a huntress and the Doctor always finds a way to use her to his advantage. She always wear her tribe garb and truly made an impact on the Doctor Who universe while she is on the program.

Louis Jameson portrays the young huntress and brings a different kind of companion to Doctor Who. My memory of Leela is rather vague because it has been so long since I saw an episode or serial with her in it. But, I can say I do remember her from the time she is on the program. The writers of the show do a great job with Leela. She makes a mark on me. At the time I watch the Fourth Doctor with her as the companion I am only 9 or 10 years of age. So, you can see why I really do not recall too much information about her.

It was to me a great change when they bring Leela to the show. What it does for me is show the diversity to the show. It also show that the writers and showrunner are creative in what they are trying to do. They want people to be engaged with the show.

Leela is one of the great companions the Doctor travels and to believe it is now forty years since the Doctor meets her is amazing. This simply shows the longevity of the show and it popularity among people around the world.
