Half-Human

As a fan, watching Doctor Who and paying close attention events in the stories is something I do. So, paying close attention to details is vital for me and something which is part of my being. In this article, Thomas Ling writes about the seven biggest contradiction of the Doctor Who canon. The first one is that the Doctor is half-human and is the one that disturbs me the most.

Okay, my favorite Time Lord is not one hundred percent Time Lord. You just totally messed everything up for me. So, you telling me for all these years I did not know the Doctor was part human. Well, there are times when he does seem more human than alien, but really. Come on man, don’t play with my feeling like that.

Now, if someone starts to watch Doctor Who while Peter Davison is the Doctor, they may think he is half-human. But other than his Doctor, his action don’t prove any such idea. Well, if you listen to the Master at times you might believe that. Time Lords may not show much compassion or love for that matter, but when you watch Doctor Who it seems the Doctor cares about other people.

The fact the Time Lords are alien and have different thoughts and physiology how do we know if they have the same feelings and ways of humans. The Doctor at times seems human in the way he cares about and helps races and planets out but does that mean he is part human.

Okay, Ling does give proof the Doctor may be part human, but we need to realize the change did not come until the Eighth Doctor. He was the first to say he was part human and on his mother’s side. So, you are telling fans that the Doctor’s mother is human. Okay, what does that mean? DId the Doctor’s father travel to earth and married his mother or just have a one night stand.

The idea of the Doctor’s father marrying a human seems remote. The Time Lords would not intermingle with the human race, or at least that is what this fan believes. The Time Lords think very highly of themselves and just does not seem like an option. Well, that does not mean they can’t fall for a human.

Ling inserts several videos to show where this idea gets some credibility, but then you also need to question it. What is meant by that is does the Doctor just tell the man on the movie that to gain his confidence. Why else would he do such a thing?

This contradiction blows my mind somewhat. How can the writer of the movie add that the Doctor is half human? That changes things considerably as far the show is concerned. For all those years the fans think the Doctor is a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey and all of a sudden they throw in that his mother is human. Wow, talk about a surprise, if it is true.

There is another story arc where there is some confusion. A hybrid of two species mentioned in season nine. The Doctor seems to take ownership of being the hybrid. But is he referring to Ashildr whose is known as “me”?

So, there is confusion on the idea of the Doctor being half-human. This fan has never thought the Doctor is any part human. There are times when he does seem to be human, but don’t you think it is because he loves humans so much.

The only Doctor that is part human in my mind is the one who went with Rose. The Doctor created because of the events in Donna Nobles last episode was part human. Unless he switched places with our Doctor, the Doctor is not half-human.

Those fans who believe that can continue to belive it. For me there is not proof to believe our Doctor is part human. SOme of actions may make us think hs is part human, but his physiolgy tells a different story.
