Ferocious
With any old villain On Doctor Who, or any other television shows returning foes need updates. Change to them is good and helps to keep them fresh and new. Well, Chris Chibnall teases fans both old and new with a description which raises interest. He describes the Cybermen as ferocious in this article.
What meaning can one gain from the description of being ferocious? What comparison is there? Can anyone see Cybermen as being savagely fierce? How about being cruel? Now, violent is one description fans can attach to the Cybermen. When thinking about ferocious, you can use a wolverine as an example. They don’t take any prisoners when they attack. Then one may equate it to a dog fight between two pit bulls. One dog wants to latch onto the neck of the other dog and not let go. Of course, you will see it as being vicious.
The Cybermen are many things, but they aren’t savagely fierce. The description makes them primal in some way. It is hard to see them like wild men. Yeah, that may be a little off as well. But id hard to see the Cybermen as being cruel. Being cruel does mean there can be torture involved.
Fans can see them as being violent because they usually are. Fans expect violence when they see Cybermen appear. They love to kill those who oppose them, but they are not like Daleks and scream exterminate when they are shooting at the enemy.
Does making them rusty cause them to be ferocious? Hey, maybe the rust enters their circuitry, and it causes damage. What a thought and idea. Use something that weakens metal to change the personality of a Cyberman. Okay, that may not be what happens, but it is a thought.
Well, whatever Chibnall means by teasing fan by describing the Cybermen as being ferocious, he did bring some intrigue to season 12. What are fans going to see when the rusty Cybermen appear? Well, they don’t know. So, they will have to watch and see because there isn’t enough information to know for sure.
