End of the World
The end of the world here is a figurative idea. What Steven Moffat does in this show is phenomenal. I stay on the edge of my seat from the beginning. The seems none the worse even though he is blind. Of course he uses sunglasses to see but not in the way when his eyes are good. He still has not told Bill he is blind and this begins to wear on Nardol. It also begins to to take its toll on te Doctor as well. He says in the Extremis he has not told Bill because he does not want her to worry about him.
This episode is a little different for me. It uses the idea of World War III. They have the three biggest powers on earth coming together to make the decision for the earth. The three military leaders choose to surrender to the mummies. But do it out of fear and because of this they die. The end of the World is at hand and the Doctor is needed. The Mummies here believe they are needed to prevent war and bring peace.
The way the show plays out is really good. In the end the Doctor receives his sight again because Bill surrenders to the Mummies. Because she does it out of love and not fear she lives. What transpires during the show is quiet a ride for me. The mummies or monks seem to have all the power to stop a war but it requires the surrender of the humans for the peace o come. Of course the Doctor is against the surrender to the Monks.
The strange thing about this is these monks have been doing this for thousands of years and noone even knows it. That is quiet strange and it take the Doctor and Bill to see it. This episodes ends not knowing what is coming. It allows me to think about what is going to happen and have an excitement about next week show.
