Lost Episodes to be Animated

Doctor Who serial Power of the Daleks is now going to made in a cartoon. This particular serial is missing episodes called lost episodes. The BBC is trying to make good by bringing these back by animating them. This is real good news for Doctor Who fans, especially those like me who have never seen this serial.

The serial consist of six episodes and is the first ever regeneration of the Doctor. How great to see the transformation of William Hartnell into Patrick Troughton.(1) I believe it is great for one because I personally do not know much about the Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton.

This little bit of news is great. The animation of this serial is a great idea and I believe other fans will feel the same way. I know the most of the new fans really do not know much about the original series. Personally, the only original series doctors I know about begins with the Third Doctor. This very well could be the same for other fans as well.

The fact they are making a cartoon version of this particular serial, is wonderful. According to the article, the BBC only shows them in the UK one time. They only sell it overseas to Australia and New Zealand. As a result, there are not many fans who see it after its first release. This serial is considered the Holy Grail for fans.(2)

I personally didn’t see this episode. There is a short clip which shows the First Doctor regenerating into the Second Doctor, but that is all. Of all the regenerations, this one is the most iconic. While most of the regeneration episodes are intact, this one is not. Therefore, this makes it a great thing for the fans of the show. Also, if they put this on dvd, and like they won’t. It will be available to everyone.

I find that the BBC destroys these episodes disturbing. The excuse they give is that they did not know how well the show would be. Well, 50 years later it is still going strong. The new generation of leaders now understand it is a mistake to destroy the episodes. But I might would say it is too late, but no they figure out what to do.

The commissioning of the animation of these lost episodes will help new fans to see what the original show is like. As a result, they will meet the Second Doctor and his companions. I am sure the hope is to gain more fans as well. Therefore, this move should help grow the fan base.

I want to see more of the original series and as a result of this action I maybe able to do just that. This is something which I have been waiting for and my prayers have been answered. It is about time that the BBC did something to bring the classic episodes to life.
