Demons

The story takes us back to 1947. The time is at the moment of the Partition of India. Once again Chibanall takes the viewers to an important event in history. One which saw a division to make three separate countries, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. But as usual, trails and faces some different kind of demons.

There was a new enemy, which are called the Thijarian assassins. (1) This race of people is feared by many. The reason they are there is much different than most enemies or villains from Doctor Who.

The main idea of this story revolves around Yaz.s nan and a watch which she tells belonged to her granddad. Well, the story was interesting, it develops slowly. At least for me, it moves rather slow. The story is good and brings a family feel to the episode. It gives us some background for Yaz and her family. Which is something fans need to know to some point?

The fact the story revolves around her nan’s first husband and not her granddad makes some sense. But it also lets Yaz know the watch did not belong to her grandad. Which was a surprise to her?

The doctor taking her companions to that point in time is great for Yaz and everyone else. They see and become apart of an important event in history. Since they are there, it allows the Doctor to teach an important lesson.

The enemies they meet are not enemies. They are not there to assassinate anyone, but rather to honor those fallen in battle. Their presence disturbs the doctor, but in the end, she leaves them be. There isn’t a reason to destroy them.

Overall, the story is good. We see a lot of different emotions seen from Yaz as she witnesses the events. This episode tells a good story as well educating us on the dividing of land in India in the 1940s.
