Tunnel
Sarah Doran, a journalist from Radio Times, wrote this article about Jodie Whittaker. In the article fans find out Whittaker is a tunnel of both panic and excitement before the announcement of her casting as the Thirteenth Doctor.
To be honest, who would not have the same emotions that Whittaker had. Whether she is a Whovian or not is not clear, but any actor would feel the same. Doctor Who is most likely the most iconic show produced by the BBC. These emotions are normal human emotions, and we should expect nothing less.
Whittaker and Tennant are good friends since they worked together on Broadchurch. Not only have they worked together Tennant was the Tenth Doctor. After being cast as the Thirteenth Doctor, Tennant would be the first actor friend to call, considering he was the Tenth Doctor for four years. Many fans believe he was the best of all the Doctors. It is nice that Whittaker could call him after being cast for advice.
In writing this post, the emotions we see are those which you will go and tell others. Whovians everywhere would be calling everyone in their cellphones if this was to happen to them. Think about this as a Whovian. Yeah, we would all be very excited about just getting the role. But then there is panic because you realize the responsibility required.
Anyone who manages to get the role of the Doctor has big shoes to fill. It is a role with twelve previous Doctors. Each of them with their specific personalities and quirks. You begin to think about what they did. Then you think about the massive following the show has. There is lots of stress and because of that being a tunnel of emotions is possible.
There is one thing Whittaker promised if she became the Doctor. She made a promise earlier about calling her friends in the TARDIS if she got the role.(1) You know this is a great idea. They will be the best to call and help with any anxiety you may have.
Tennant will be one of her biggest supporters. He will be there whenever she needs him. As a result, she will have someone she can get advice anytime she needs. Tennant in his interview with Stephen Colbert says, “It’s brilliant. I can’t think of someone better to join the gang and be poised to take it to a whole new level. It’s great.”(2)
You see Tennant will be a great person for her to turn when she is feeling down. What an awesome friend to have. The help that Tennant can give her is immeasurable.
Fans of Doctor Who hope that the excitement does not leave, but that she does not panic as she shoots Doctor Who. At least this is the feelings of this Whovian.
