Too Often or Too Little
In a recent ScreemRant article, Dan Peeke gives his opinion of five characters used too often, and five characters used too little. Some fans may agree with his opinion, but other fans will not. To be honest, some of the ones he mentions are not ones this fan wants to see more. Of course, every fan’s opinion is different.
Too Often
There is some relevance in saying the Cybermen and Daleks appear too often. Outside of Jon Pertwee, every Doctor faces the Cybermen. Then when considering the Daleks, every Doctor has at least one story with them in it. Does this mean fans see them too much? Well, every fan may have a different answer to that question. Some fans love both enemies and want one episode every season or series. These enemies are an integral part of Doctor Who. Therefore, it isn’t right if fans don’t see them in a series or season. Would Doctor survived without having stories about the Cybermen and Daleks? Who knows, but they could be overused.
Another character he says fans see too much are the Sontarans. Yeah, these guys are not very exciting and with the weakness of the vent on their neck. Please, so easy to kill. Then they are a clone race. Yeah, some will say we see them too often. Of course, other fans don’t feel the same way about the Sontarans either.
The Abzorbalooff is the fourth. This one could have stayed on the paper. This one doesn’t make a fan say yeah I love this one. They are only present in Love and Monsters. Fans don’t see the Doctor, so that takes away from the story. But the way he destroys his enemies lacks excitement. How exciting is absorbing your enemies?
The last of the five is the Slitheen. They are cool to some degree because they can replicate humans. But their weakness kills the coolness. They can’t get near vinegar, and they are gassy. Some fans may find the gassiness funny, but it takes away from the character.
Too Little
Conclusion
Yes, there are some characters fans want to see more often, as well as, those they would rather see less often. Fans do wish to be able to help in the production of Doctor Who, which is out of the question. Hopefully, the production team will bring us what we desire. The likelihood of that is zero to none, but the statement could be wrong.
