Next Doctor

The BBC wants a new era and that is exactly what they will get. Peter Capaldi steps down after the 2017 Christmas Special and now we wonder who the next Doctor will be? This is job for the media and fans both.

Apparently the media is already putting odds on who will be the next Doctor. As a result, it seems to becoming something to bet on. I personally don’t know and neither do they. But they want to make it interesting anyway. All I can say is let the games begin. Those who are close to new showrunner, may have some idea of what he wants. But he is the final say and all we can do is trust his judgement.

For the longest time now, we hear about the next Doctor possibly being a female. Matt Smith, the Ninth Doctor even says that it is very possible. Of course he was possibly humoring a young female fan. But Moffat changed genders for the Master, so a gender change is not out of the question for the Doctor either. Therefore, don’t be surprised if the next Doctor is an actress instead of actor.

There is also a bit of suspense when choosing the next Doctor. The showrunner has a particular personality in mind and then must find the actor or actress that fits this personality. Chris Chibnall is the ne shouldered with the task. I do not wish to be him. Doctor Who is such an Iconic television program that the responsibility is so great. Whoever he chooses is going to be the banner bearer for Doctor Who. He or she is going to be the one everyone is looking. It will be very important to cast the correct actress or actor for the role.

As the lead for Doctor Who, that person will have 12 different Doctors to follow. Each one of them have their own personality and brought their own pieces to the role. The hope in casting the next Doctor is to find someone as good or even better than the last. I certainly hope the next Doctor is as good or better than the last. I know the BBC wants an infusion new energy into the show, so this is a good thing for them.  My hope is that whatever happens is good for the show. I like Capaldi and I hope the next one is as good.
