Scary

Fans of Doctor can remember stories in which their favorite sci-fi television show was scary. As a fan, you know there are going to be times when you will be startled or even scared because you don’t have any idea what is coming. But does it mean it is a horror story?

Here is where fans should ask the question, is Doctor Who meant to be a horror show? Well, maybe the person who believes this doesn’t mean Nightmare on Elm Street of Friday the 13th scary? Of course, those are true horror movies in every way. But can Doctor Who be scary without crossing the line? What does that person by being scarier? Well, in this article, you find what one writer believes.

Admittedly, there have been times when Doctor Who is scary. Just thinking about recent years, fans remember the Weeping Angels. They are one of the scariest, because of the way they operate. Just thinking about them moving toward you when you are not looking at them. The idea of statues coming to life and moving toward you with the intentions of killing you can be unnerving.

Was any of season 11 stories real scary? There does seem to an absence of scariness, not that that is a bad thing though. Does every Doctor need scariness? There are times fans see some things which startle and scare them, but does it make the Doctor better? The range of issues fans sees in Doctor Who is what makes the show so good. The main genre is sci-fi, but there is drama, comedy, and even horror pieces among other things.

Does having more horror make the stories and show better?  Making the show scarier could raise it to a new level, but is it what fans want? To go even further, is it what Chibnall desires? Well, only Chibnall knows the answer to that question. But then there is another side to the argument as well. Is the writer of the article pointing to making Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor scarier?

Reflecting on what is in the article itself, fans know the Doctor as an authoritarian which aliens are scared to face. Other Doctors basically destroy the evil aliens and don’t look back. There does seem to be that part of the character to be missing. Does Chibnall add this later? Can fans expect to see a more scary Doctor in the future? I mean will the enemies shake in their boots because of who Jodie’s Doctor does or say? Do you as a fan want to see the aliens and enemies shaking in their boots? If you do, we will just have to wait and see.
