Needed

Okay, here is something tough to handle. According to this article from RadioTimes, fans reveal what they see as needed to be changed. Everyone who watches Doctor Who sees it a different way, but there are changes necessary. Chibnall, in many ways, has not been as good as he needs to be. The show has suffered, and fans are letting the BBC know by not watching. The Resolution of the Daleks has the lowest ratings of any of the Doctor Who Specials. So, is this the condemnation of Chris Chibnall or something completely different?

When the BBC hired Chibnall as showrunner, the idea was to bring in new blood and a different look. He cast Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor. It was big news, but not something fans didn’t expect. Not saying it was popular with all fans because some fans left. Did the choice hurt Doctor Who? It probably did and didn’t. Jodie is doing a good job, but many fans believe the show is suffering because of the writing. After watching classic Doctor Who, one can see these stories are not the same quality. So, they need to study them and implement what they can learn.

Whittaker is not a problem. She is a good actress and portrays the Doctor well at times. Some fans may have trouble with her, and some ask why is there a problem? The fans who did not like the choice would leave, but some may stay out of curiosity. The question to ask is, what changes are necessary to make Doctor Who better? Changes that will bring fans back as well grow the fan base? See, fans don’t choose the showrunner, cast, writers, or any other aspect of Doctor Who. Therefore, the only way they invoke change is through ratings. As noted above, the Resolution of the Daleks Is the worst-rated special of all time. Does the low rating invoke needed change? Who knows? Only time will tell.
