Return of a Past Face
Alrighty then, what are my thoughts on the idea of a past face returning to a role which they play. I also can say that as the showrunner if that is my desire, I will make it happen. While this is a new idea, I have to ask how will it affect the show and it viewership. I don’t know whether that is something that I will even consider. However, Steven Moffat apparently doesn’t think it is out of the question.
There has been a rumor that Matt will return to Doctor Who as the Doctor.(1) By saying that, one may think well it is going to happen. Well, ok maybe it will and maybe it won’t. I personally do not have any control over the cast of Doctor Who. For me this idea is foreign to me and if it is me I won’t do it. However, bring a past face back to the show may bring good ratings, but can the showrunner be sure of that. Of course since the Doctor is an alien they can so whatever they want. I really like Matt Smith as the Doctor and his first three years set you for what you think his Doctor is like. If Steven Moffat is to bring him back, how is Matt going to portray the Doctor.
Okay, now there is a change taking place with the showrunner of Doctor Who, so this may not happen. While there is a change in the showrunner, there may not be a change in ideas. The new showrunner may see this an awesome way to promote the show. But, let see how to answer the question which I ask. I like the way Matt uses bowties and believes they are cool, so if he brought back as the Doctor, this what I will expect. He always say that bowties are cool and that is his tagline. Therefore to bring him back then changing the tagline or anything else may confuse the viewers. Also I am considering the reaction of the fans as well.
Your fans are the ones who keep the show on the air and if they do not like the change then they quit viewing the show. The idea of losing viewers will play a large part while i consider bringing back a past face. There are some past faces which return to the show, but they are in different roles. That is something which works well for the show, but for me to bring back a past face in the main role may not work. That is something the showrunner will need to decide. I know Matt wishes he had not left the show(2), but there may not be enough good things to come from that to bring him back as the Doctor.
The only thing I can say about this if it happens, it happens and I will have to see how it all plays out. I hope the showrunner is thinking what is best for show before jumping into something might hurt the show in any way.
