Peter Capaldi’s Status

Well, I personally am wondering what the status of Peter Capaldi returning as the lead on my favorite television show Doctor Who. I know that I wrote about a while back and from the article I find my information gives the indication that he will return for the eleventh season. Well, I fins another article today which gives two different views and the pros and cons of both. Now they do not give any indication one or the other. As a result, they really do not answer the question. Will Peter Capaldi return?

This fan certainly hopes that Capaldi returns for at least one more season. The idea that Capaldi will not return revolves around the fact that Steven Moffat is out as showrunner. This of course will play some part in the status of Capaldi and Doctor Who. From everything I read about this, Capaldi is loving the role and wants to remain the Doctor. Moffat has also made the statement that he does not think he is writing out a Doctor either. Consequently, I get the idea that Capaldi will have at least one more year.

The one thing that all whovians should should know and understand is that change on Doctor Who is a reality. Actors and actresses come and go. Companions change even more than the faces of the Doctor. Considering this, I know that one day Capaldi will step down. Therefore, a new face will take his place and we will begin a new era with Doctor Who. As of now, there is change taking place in the show. The fact that Moffat is no longer running the show after season 10 means a new showrunner will put his stamp on the show. I personally do not know how he is going to change or tweak the show. At the moment, I do not know whether it is going to be good or bad.

The article I read gives reasons why Capaldi will return or not return. I can see where each one has its own merit. I really don’t want to see another Doctor right now. Since the return of the show there are four men who have played the Doctor. Each one of course being different according to the actors own personality and character description. I really hate change over all and the fact that most actors only stay three years on the show is to me horrible. Sometimes I like the change and then sometimes I don’t. I just learn to cope with it and continue watching.

Well, Capaldi hints at his leaving the show after season 10. Here is what he says, “It’s terrifying,” he said. “I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over. “When you accept the job you know there’ll come a day, inevitably, when you’ll be saying goodbye.”(1) Therefore, you may assume he is leaving after season 10, right. Well, I personally am not going to assume that right now.

In another statement after hearing about Moffat leaving, “Capaldi revealed in March that he’d been “asked to stay on” but hadn’t made up his mind about whether or not to stick around. Doctor Who is a very difficult thing to say goodbye to and I don’t want to make that decision right now,” he insisted. “When I am forced to make that decision, I will make it. “(2) Ok, now this is the evidence the writer gives for Capaldi not to return. You can make your own decision but I really can’t say now from that. It seems a little contradictory to me.

Now, the evidence for is what I said earlier in the post so, I will leave it up to the reader as to which one the believe. Whether there is a new Doctor or not really does not matter to me and may not matter to other fans. What happens happens and we have to live with it.
