What if?
While scrolling through articles on the Radio Times Facebook page, this article caught my eye. What we find in it is that Jenna Coleman may have left Doctor Who a season earlier. As a result, fans may ask what if Jenna chose not to come back after Season 8.
Jenna not coming back might have been a surprise for some fans, but then so much for others. At the same, there were probably some fans who wished for a new companion, and others who did not want a change.
According to the article, this is not the first time a producer has had to scrap a new companion idea. Russell T Davies did this for the 2008 series with David Tennant. His plans were for a journalist named Penny, but after discovering Catherine Tate wish to return to Doctor Who as Donna Noble.
Well, apparently Moffat’s work on a new companion wasn’t as advanced as Davies’. Fullerton does say that Moffat did not believe that Coleman was completely ready to leave. So, his work on the companion was not as advanced as Davies’.
Okay, now for some fans Coleman leaving maybe a good thing. Now, what is meant by that is some of the fans did not like Clara and wanted to see her go. On the other hand, others loved Clara and did not want to see her leave.
What if Coleman chose to leave? How would season 9 have looked? Who would have been the new companion and how would he/she mesh with Peter Capaldi? There are many questions to be asked and answered. Who knows how things would have gone if Coleman decided to leave?
From this fan’s perspective, Clara not being there may have been good, but we don’t know. Not being a big fan of Clara, this fan may have wanted a change. Someone who is a Clara fan would not want a change.
We as fans will never get an answer for the what if Clara did not come back because Jenna decided to return. And according to Moffat an actor or actress does not need to leave until they are ready to go.
