Viewer Ratings

There are some Doctor Who fans who wish to belittle and make a negative out a positive. Some may know what is meant by this, but then others may not. It is quite simple for someone who has seen the negative comments from Doctor Who fans who seem to be against everything which took place with Doctor Who. The hope is this does not come across as bashing those people because they have a right to their opinion. So, this is not something to belittle them and their views. The hope is to show the viewer ratings are better through three episodes for Season 11.

Some fans point to the decline in viewer ratings from the first episode to the second episode and then to the third episode, reminiscent of prior years. Yes, numbers decreased with each of the last three years, but the difference is the numbers for Season 11 are much better through three episodes.

Okay, let’s go inside the numbers. The only seasons checked are nine, ten and eleven. Viewer ratings were at the lowest during the last two years of Peter Capaldi’s time as the Doctor. Everyone has their view of this, but this piece is not about the reasons. But now there are negative fans who wish to make their lives as well as others miserable by pointing the slight decrease in viewers from episode one to episode two and three.

Well, the proof is in the numbers. Season 9 viewer rating is 5.96 for the first three episodes. (1) Which is was the lowest since the reboot in 2005. The second lowest was 6.09 for Season 10. (2) There was a small increase from the prior year because of Bill and the return of some old enemies.

So, how does the last two season compare to Season 11? The numbers do not lie because Season 11 has a viewer rating of 9.44 through the first three episode. (3) The numbers don’t lie! These are positive for Doctor Who and might show what the BBC did was right. Well, this writer is not going to judge the decision to make all the changes. There was a need for changes, and the BBC made the changes. Fans won’t know how good it is until after Chris Chibnall runs Doctor Who for more than one season.

There is not going to be a judgment made at this time. Just a statement made by the new series and all the changes. Everything up to this point is good. Fans can make more of an evaluation after two or three seasons. Things are good now mostly because everything is new. Only time will tell how good things will be.
