Uncertain
Uncertain may not even be the word to use here. In this article, RTD says, he has grown up after concerns about casting a woman as the Doctor.(1) Fans are not the only ones to worry or be concerned. For some fans, it is the fact the Doctor will no longer be a man. This seems to be the biggest hurdle in the matter. For those who read this and think I don’t like the idea of a female Doctor, you are wrong. This doesn’t have anything to do with that.
There are many fans who will say there are not worried or concerned because they know that Jodie is a great actress. But then there are others who will worry and be concerned. There is a reason for their concern, but whether the concern is like RTD’s I don’t know. Those who are worrying about this remember the Doctor is an alien. Therefore, physically he is different.
RTD worrying and feeling uncertain was different from most if not all fans. He had a hard time in reconciling the idea of the fathers explaining the Doctor’s sex change. And if you read the article you will see the position he takes. My thoughts on the matter did not even go to this, but his thoughts did. The way he explains his feelings is very thoughtful and makes a lot of sense. And I can see why he worried.
As a fan, I worry about what is next when the Doctor changes. This may just be me but I want the best shows to be produced, but I also know there are good shows and bad shows, but I continue to watch Doctor Who. RTD explain himself and his feelings from 13 years ago and tells us that is over it.
Society is changing and Doctor Who is changing as society is changing. Changing Doctors, companions, and planets are what has kept Doctor Who around for 50 plus years. I personally can hardly wait for season 11 to air. I want to see what Chibnall does with the new cast and Doctor Who.
