Hobo?

I have heard many different things and ideas about the Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton. Reading articles and hearing descriptions give me two or three and maybe more ideas of who is is as the Doctor. One, I have heard two or three times is cosmic hobo. Personally, watching him is slightly lacking. The reason for this is because is even when Doctor Who airs when I am a teenager, they do not show many of his episodes. This for the most part is because many of his serials are not complete. The BBC has many lost episodes and I believe the most of them are his.

This of course does not bode well when it comes to knowing allot about this Doctor. As much as I love the show, he is the one Doctor watched the least. One episode I remember the most is the Two Doctors. This one airs in 1986 I believe while Colin Baker is the Doctor. While watching that serial, I find him rather amazing and somewhat incompetent. But he may seem like that to fool people into thinking he is not very good. Of course he is the Doctor and not incompetent. Now, if you read this and see different from that let me know.

Now, they bring back Power of the Daleks by animation. I see it as it airs. BBC America is airing the episodes so I can record them and watch them whenever I wish. I can see where they describe him as a hobo. He wonders around the universe but he does not really ask anyone for anything. I mean he wears a bow tie and really shabby looking clothes. I can see where they get the idea he is a cosmic hobo. His portrayal of the role is totally different from that of William Hartnell. Hartnell being more serious and Troughton more comical. It seems as at times that Troughton’s Doctor takes things less seriously.

I can say that he is most definitely different from Hartnell. Even though there is a difference, he does do a great job as the Doctor. He seems at times to get very excited about what is going on and in some way it gives some cover to his intelligence. From what I have seen, I do like Troughton’s Doctor, but I really wish to see more. What my hope is that he grows on  me as a Doctor. I am a little put off by his demeanor at times. I say that thinking about The Three Doctors and The Five Doctors. But then that is times where the Time Lords bring him together with his other selves. Then they never seem to get along very well anyway.  And he seems at the middle of tensions.

Every Doctor is different and the differences are what make the show so great. Many people list their favorites and Troughton seems to always be on top even though he may be a hobo. I can see where he may be a hobo in the eyes of the viewers. But i really cannot characterize him so because I need to see more of his work.
