Rose Tyler
I guess to state the obvious here is to say Rose Tyler was the Doctor’s first companion after a long hiatus. I want to watch the rest of season one and every other story she as the Doctor’s companion. What I remember the most about Rose is her being lovesick over the Doctor.
What I found in the first three stories from Rose was a willingness to work with the Doctor. There weren’t any romantic overtones as far as her love the Doctor. Companions falling for the Doctor does not seem like something I like, but I am sure it happens. The reason being is he is such an interesting man and pretty much a hero.
Having stories like the first three and not seeing Rose drooling over the Doctor is a breath of fresh air. Watching her show love for Mickey is something I love more than showing love for the Doctor. It just doesn’t seem right for a companion to involve themselves with the Doctor like that.
Rose was a good companion in the beginning. She was there more to help the Doctor and not show him, love. That is something which allows the episodes to be good and not get caught up in Rose loving the Doctor and then you have romantic overtones. Doctor Who is science fiction and this kind of stuff doesn’t belong. Well, okay there times you may need it, but between the Doctor and his companion.
Yeah, I know that other shows like Star Trek have the same thing, but from what I have watched it is a little different because the show is different. By that I mean on there you have a captain of a starship, and yes Captain Kirk did have some romantic encounters as did Captain Picard, I think.
I just find Rose more likable on season 1. She does seem a better companion when she is not head over heels in love with the Doctor. Tennant’s Doctor shows that he does have feelings for her, but know they can’t be together. So, the clone which comes out of the Doctor/Donna ordeal is the perfect fit for Rose.
In conclusion, no I am not a big fan of Rose, but she is likable in the beginning and is a good companion. But the romantic overtones were just a little too much at times.
