For the longest time the Fourth Doctor was my favorite. Now, you can understand that because he is the first one to ever be on television while I was growing up. Therefore, you will figure that he is one of my favorite. There are times when I wish that BBC America takes the time to air these classic episodes. What mean by that is air all the classic episodes and not just the Fourth Doctor.

While I am scanning through my timeline on Facebook, I come across this article and it catches my attention. This news is something which I can be excited about. This also great to hear because it tells me that Tom Baker loves or at least still likes to be the Fourth Doctor. I really like what Big Finish is doing here. They are bring an old school Doctor into the picture of present day enemies. Now, you may be thinking what I am talking about. Well, Big FInish is making a new audio play where the Fourth Doctor battles the Vashta Nerada.(1) The form of the Fourth Doctor is Tom Baker. Therefore, don’t be surprised if it is great.

I do realize that Baker is in his 80s, but I remember him in the 50th anniversary special, and he is absolutely marvelous. I also loved watching him and the way he plays the Doctor. It seems to me that he changes the show and really brings it new viewership. Now, I may be wrong on that but in my eyes I believe this.  Now, I may seem a little bias, but I am old school when it comes to Doctor Who. I grow up watching this guy, Peter Davidson, and Jon Pertwee.

Another thing to consider here is that this casting shows the popularity of Baker as the Fourth Doctor. This may be as a result of his long tenure and his absolute great acting while he is the Fourth Doctor. I believe that he is one face many old school Doctor Who fans will always remember. A true fan remembers them all, but they have their favorites as do the new fans.

Everyone knows that the Tenth Doctor faces the Vashta Nerada in The Silence in the Library and most fans should be very familiar with this enemy. There is not any information the Tenth Doctor gives of him facing them before, but that seems to be the case. The mystery of the Doctor grows all the time. There is so much that we do not know. Therefore, we continue to watch and be amazed at all that happens.

I find this to line up with everything with in the show. Even though a later incarnation battles what we think is new menace, it turns out that the Doctor has met them before. Hey, I am alright with this. What it give me is something to look forward to and keep me interested in the program. I believe these audio plays may only be available in the UK, but I am not sure, and I really do not know if Amazon has them or not, but I will check that out.

I want to hear this play and maybe some of the others as well. It is these plays by Big Finish which helped to keep Doctor Who alive, these and the novels.
