Defining Moment

Now, I can say that every person in this world has a defining moment in their life. Something which happens that changes things for you or someone you know. In this article by Huw Fullerton, I read that when Jodie Whittaker is cast as the Doctor it is her defining moment.

I can see why she says this even though I don’t know much about her. I don’t know how famous she is or anything much about her. The only thing I know is that she co-stars with David Tennant on Broadchurch. Now there are many fans who are excited about her being the Doctor. But the fans are not the only ones. Whittaker is just as excited.(1)

Playing the Doctor can be a defining moment for any actor or actress in this case. Doctor WHo is such an iconic program and reaches so many people. I believe anyone cast as the Doctor has a certain standard to fulfil. Now, some people may not see that way but I do. I know that every Doctor is different and has their own take on the role, but thy need to make the character great.

Whittaker sees the role as reaching all ages of viewers and this is so true. There are fans from young boys and girls to teenagers and there are adults as well. The role of the Doctor touches many different lives in many different ways. Therefore, the role is a very serious one.

The Doctor is a hero of sorts to many of the fans. Whittaker says “That was exciting to David,” she explained. “It was a superhero he could play. And now it opens it a little wider, to women as well.”(2) I see this as being so true. Whenever you watch the show you know that the Doctor will win and that he will save whoever he finds in distress. Now, I never thought of the Doctor as being a hero or even a superhero. But I suppose he can be to some.

For Whittaker it seems to be an all positive situation except for everyone making a big deal out of her casting as the Doctor. She wants things just to be normal and people just to accept her as the Doctor.(3) Her casting changes things and there has been some resistance, and some may never watch the show until a man is cast again. Well, with that said, my hope is that she does well and Doctor Who does well.

I am sure that things are different for her now that she is the Doctor. I will not know how much I like her as the Doctor until I see her first episode. Becoming the Doctor for Whittaker will change her forever. This is something Doctor Who fans dream about doing. And she is now the one piloting the TARDIS. But apparently won’t be for at least the first episode since it did explode. Oh well, I guess we will have to see where that is going later.

I am ready to move forward and hope this great casting for Whittaker is something she likes and stays maybe more than three years. Then also that Doctor Who continues to grow and become more iconic.
